Current Committee

Exeter MedSoc is run by 13 very talented individuals. Meet the 2011-2012 team below!

President - Andrew Williams

Don't be fooled by Andy's charm and good looks, your medsoc president is a mummy's boy at heart. His favourite activities include blow-drying his hair, cuddling in bed, pretending to pump iron at the gym and impersonating Justin Bieber. Despite this, Andy is great fun and the best guy for the job. Get to know him in freshers week, you can find him at the bar in mosaic or sharking on the dancefloor. Andy will be overseeing everything Medsoc does, making sure every committee member is doing their job, making sure every first year feels included by the society, and making sure everyone who joins Medsoc in September has an AMAZING first year!

Vice-President - Tim Shields

Tim, otherwise known as T-Pain will be the MedSoc vice president for the coming year. He’s what’s known in the business as a “Keeno” – throwing himself into the Peninsula ethos from day one! His interests include Liverpool F.C. and music, but his true passion involves diving head first into a massive pool of lash. This year he’s working hard liaising with local businesses to gain you guys the best experience possible out of Exeter! He will also be setting up a Music and Arts Society to allow us medics to embrace our creative sides, and have a great time doing so. But don’t you worry, he won’t let his duties interrupt his social calendar and he’ll see you at the bar!

MedSoc Secretary - Charlotte Stanley

Charlotte ,otherwise known as "Manly Stanley" is this years Secretary, and I have no doubt that she will be a good one. Despite organisation being one of her many talents here at PMS, holding her drink is certainly not one of them! Charlotte will be in charge of taking minutes for all of our Medsoc meetings, and more importantly, keeping the rest of the committee on track (no easy feat!) So if you have any questions about Medsoc, she’s the person to ask, just don’t challenge her to an arm wrestle!

amy.png

Treasurer - Amy Huxtable

Admittedly Amy may not be the best at managing her own money (clothes and alcohol being her downfall) however she does assure us that when it comes to your money it is in good hands. Amy has many contacts and good ideas to set up the best deals for you– don’t question her methods, just trust her! Along with deals, socials, educational events and activities Amy will ensure you get heaps back from your membership and will definitely make Medsoc worthwhile for every Fresher to join.

Social Officer - Jessica Trounce

Jess Trounce: [j-e-ss tr-ow-n-ss] Also known as: lash monkey. ALWAYS the life and soul of the party Jess NEVER leaves without tequila flowing through her veins. Jess is sexy, smart and always smiling. She’s every fresher’s essential guide on how to be the perfect medical student – Smart and sophisticated, even as she staggers home on a Tuesday night… And Wednesday night… and Thursday… So Look out Fresh!! Because when you’re turning that corner with a beer in your hand and you hear “dooowwwnn ittt” its either that or you’ll feel the wrath of Trounce!! (and I’d down it fast!)

  seb.png

Social Officer - Seb Winn

Seb Winn aka Sebaceous (you’ll learn about these in PBL case 5) is the male half of this year’s duo. Over the past year, Seb has earned this prestigious post of chief lash monkey, ending many a night on the kitchen floor. Seb and Jess have been wined and dined by Exeter’s finest club owners and have some cracking deals lined up for this year. You’ll be sure to find him by the bar with a Jager in hand or sweating it up on the d-floor so don’t be shy to hug and say hi! :p

  chloe.png

Ball Secretary - Chloe Theodorou

Chloe has the unenviable task of organising our Winter Ball this year. This is a huge undertaking which requires a lot of coordiation and funding. You will see Chloe marching around with her big colourful file, demanding sponsorship and fearlessly tackling anyone who gets in the way of the perfect ball. She's small and mighty; so do as she says! Chloe will be using her greek flair for huge parties to make this our best Winter Ball yet!

  ian.png

Activities Officer - Ian Welch

Ian was a prominent member of the Lash Society last year and he’ll be looking to incorporate this into many of the events he plans this year. Events will include sport, music and weekend trips to make sure you are all constantly enjoying yourselves.! He’ll be the catalyst to your fun but careful though girls, he is MedSoc’s proud owner of the ‘Most Dangerous Shark’ award and I have no doubt he’ll be living up to his reputation next year. Ian’s motto is ‘perseverance pays off’ so whether he is ‘being friendly’ on the dance floor or serenading you with his love songs, make sure you come prepared!!

  danny.png

Activities Officer - Danniel Pennington

Danny "The Scouse" Pennington is one of our Activity Officers. This football maestro will build on the successes of last year and ensure that all activities from varsity to open mic nights go off with a bang. He is an organised, some say OCD, highly motivated individual who has made it his aim to guarantee that everyone has a fantastic time in the coming year!

  caroline.png

Charity Officer - Caroline Kennedy

Caroline is a Charity Officer with a big heart and will be using her Irish charm to get you to dig deep for a good cause. She will be organising many fundraising events such as the legendary Medsoc Naked Calendar and a Slave Auction and will always be there with some form of vodka spiked drink in hand (eg Wineka). Look out for her in the Fresher’s week Charity events as she will be spreading happiness , craziness and lots of charitable love!

  jess-G.png

Charity Officer - Jess Gallagher

Jess may seem like you're average, kind-hearted charity officer but in reality she's so much more! Holding the record for the fastest beer 'bong' last year, she is not one to shy away from a night on the town and will ensure you guys have a wicked line-up of charity events to look forward to through-out the year! Known as a woman of many tactics Jess flaunts bargaining skills others can only dream of and has a ‘slight’ competitive streak- all of which will no doubt come in handy for raising lots of dosh for well-deserving charities! In short, Jess will ensure everyone gets involved in doing a little good this year and of course that a cracking time is had doing so!

  liz.jpg

Education Officer - Liz McFadyen

Medsoc Education guru Liz will be working her tiny legs off to make Medsoc a valuable academic tool for you to use as you plough your way through your first year. She will be providing interesting speakers, organising extra learning support and exam tip sessions, and most importantly she will be creating 40 very happy and loving “medic families”. Upon your arrival in September our Mother Goose Mcfadyen will unite each of you with your second year parents, who will be there for both academic and social support throughout the year. If you find your second year parents lack admirable parenting skills our darling Liz will be more than happy to answer any of your questions and help guide you through your first year at Peninsula.

  cat.png

Publicity Officer - Catherine O'Brien

Cat, 18, NS (non-smoker), and WLTM (would like to meet) all you freshers when you sign up to MedSoc! Cat will be making sure that you know about all the events for the year, through the use of facebook, posters and general chit chat. Be prepared to see this happy-go-lucky Irish committee member at all the events she'll be publicising! As Publicity Officer, she works closely with all of the event organisers to make sure you're kept in the know about our MedSoc social calendar. So keep an eye out on facebook for messages and event pages set up by Cat. Ps. We apologise now for the what will be a MASSIVE St. Patrick's day celebration..
