Tortora - Principles of Anatomy and Physiology

Refered to just as "Tortora", this book is the bible of your first and second years. It's easy to read and goes into good enough detail for you to swallow and suppliment your LSRC and PBL learning. If you buy one book before coming here, make this it.

Kumar & Clark - Clinical Medicine

This book contains almost everything there is to know about clinical medicine, diseases and treatment. While the information can be a bit daunting, this book is referred to by students and doctors alike and really gives you a hands on knowledge of medicine. A very useful book to have lying around.

Moore & Dalley - Clinical Orientated Anatomy

I don't personally own this book but a lot of people swear by it. Apparently is is a very good book for use in LSRC anatomy and contains good questions. Worth having a look at.

BNF - British National Formulary

You'll see this book on the shelves of every GP surgery. While not a recommended book, I have referred time and time again to this book. It contains all you need to know about treatment of disease, including drug names, doses and even pathophysiology and modes of actions of drugs. A very useful book.

 The Anatomy Colouring Book

Try and take a look at this one before buying. It might not be to everyones taste but I find it incredible! Ask me the bones of the hands and I could tell you every time because for some reason, this just works! Worth a look!

Do not buy these books below as you will receive them for free at the St. Lukes squash when you sign up to the Medical Protection Society (MPS) and the Medical Defense Union (MDU) at no cost to yourself, and offer you free legal protection.

Oxford Hanbook of Clinical Medicine

This book is tiny, i mean seriously small but it is good! If you have good eyesight, this book can go on any journey with you and contains hordes of clinical information. Very worthwile little book but you'll have to get used to people annoyingly calling it the "cheese and onion" book. Get it? Cos it is yellow and green... and so is cheese and (spring) onion... so it's like... a joke? God help us... FREE FROM THE MPS

Oxford Concise Medical Dictionary

This book is a great addition to any bookshelf! Contains a list of all the words and diseases in snapshot form so that you can quickly become a know-it-all. If you learn the basic formation of medical words, the rest is a doddle... trust me! - FREE FROM THE MDU
