Fancy Dress

Freshers week and parties beyond are fraught with dressing up in all shapes and sizes. You have many options to do this, some expensive and some not. All in all, it depends how creative you are. Here are some tips to help you find and make the best costume!

Tips

  • POUNDLAND is a top place to find various accessories and costumes. Perfect for glow sticks especially, but also kids swords and some costumes and halloween gear! Find it next to sainsburys at the crossroads in town.
  • FANCY DRESS SHOPS can be found at the bottom end of town, past McDonalds and down the hill. There are a couple here where you can buy UV paint, full costumes, professional fancy dress accessories. Explore this area!
  • PRIMARK is awesome for buying those core costume components such as tshirts and shorts that you intend to modify in some way. Also good for cheap tights, pants, ties and glasses to build your costume. Find it in the guild shopping hall in the middle of the high street
  • CHARITY SHOPS have many cheap clothes for making costumes such as jackets, shirts, shoes etc. Good for OAP and pub golf clothing!
  • EBAY holds many cheap items such as clothing, full costumes, accessories. Look out for those good deals that pop up, but its best use is for full costumes for under a tenner
  • FABRIC STORES have great sheet material. There is one opposite the Pyramid Swimming Pool on the way to town, before the big round about. Build capes and other costumes from this, on the cheap!
  • ARTS AND CRAFTS, which basically means grab foil, string, paint and cardboard boxes from anywhere you can (old beer boxes work) and build your costume out of that. Can work a treat if you're create enough!
Costumes can be cheap and wonderful. Usually a good costume starts from a good idea, and the more inventive you are, the better reaction you'll get. You'll become seasoned veterans of it soon enough and be able to add more info to this list, but it's just a starting point!
Good luck!!!
